Back in the saddle…with something to celebrate

Yes, it’s been a while since my last post (don’t say I didn’t warn you). And yes, there’s much to report about that stretch, including a rundown of our trip to England, the baby’s foray into potty-training, and additional attacks on The New York Times Motherlode blog (read the comments).
But for now, I leave you [...]

The marmot

The Villano family spent last night in the guest cabin at a well-known Napa Valley winery. Since the place didn’t have a crib, we brought L’s travel Pack-N-Play, an old-school model that’s about twice the size of the ones they sell today.
As always, L took the opportunity to make us laugh. Hysterically.
It usually happens when [...]

Night away

You’ve undoubtedly heard the saying about how absence makes the heart grow fonder. Despite the importance of moms and dads being there for their children, I’d say this concept applies to parenthood, too.
Powergirl and I were reminded of it last night, as we spent the night at a swanky resort in the Napa Valley. While [...]

England, here we come

I returned from a 24-hour reporting trip to Las Vegas today to find an exciting milestone in the mail: L’s first official passport.
As I blogged last month, we needed to get her the document in preparation for our post-Christmas trip to England, her first official international trip. Powergirl and I have been waiting eagerly for [...]

In the news again

Though our delivery boy neglected to bring us Sunday’s copy of The New York Times, a number of friends have tipped me to a story that ran in the Travel section about the growing movement to segregate families on airplanes or elminate them from some flights all together.
(The story’s headline, “Passengers Push for Child-Free Flights,” [...]

Flexibility is our friend

One of the biggest upsides to being busy in my professional life: Cold, hard cash. One of the biggest downsides: Long days without the opportunity to kiss L goodnight.
Such was life for me on Tuesday. After spending the first three hours of the day together, the baby I parted ways when the nanny arrived. Then [...]

Documented

In anticipation of our upcoming post Christmas and New Year’s trip to England, Powergirl and I took L to the local branch of the U.S. Post Office today to get her passport. Needless to say, the experience was harrowing and adorable at the same time.
First, the good stuff: The baby, bored out of her mind, [...]

Back in action

It was with great relief tonight that my wife and I returned from four full days in Vegas away from our little L. Yes, Mom and Dad had a blast. But man—we missed our baby girl.
The missing increased exponentially over the course of our trip.
On Day No. 1, as we were enthused by the mere [...]

New level of neuroses

Powergirl and I are heading to Las Vegas on Thursday so I can cover the World Series of Poker final table. We’ll be gone until Sunday. Thankfully, my parents, whom L calls “Grandma” and “V,” are coming up to watch the baby in her environment here at the house.
Because my wife and I are neurotic, [...]

A big turn-around

L’s experience as a car passenger is about to get a whole lot more interesting.
Today, per her doctor’s authorization (and suggestion), I turned around L’s car seats in our respective vehicles. The next time the baby piles in the car for a ride, she’ll be facing forward, thereby seeing an entirely new world.
Mommy! Daddy! The [...]
