About this blog
Forget Putlizers. Forget books. I’m a writer by trade, but pretty much my only goals in life have been to become a Dad and raise my kids not to be assholes.
The first part of this equation resolved itself on the evening of May 28, 2009, when my wife (whom we’ll call Powergirl) gave birth to a gorgeous little girl (we’ll call her L). As for the second part—let’s just say the challenge unfolds daily. It is, quite frankly, the toughest assignment I’ll ever have.
And it’s an assignment I embrace wholeheartedly.
For decades, we humans have been socialized to let Moms care for babies and send Dads to earn keep. In our family, however, the roles are reversed—come October, Momma heads back to work and dear old Daddy-O (aka yours truly) will become the primary caregiver here at home.
This blog—to which I’ll refer colloquially as TDD—is my attempt to chronicle this adventure, a way to the share ups, downs, ins and outs of my experiences with other at-home fathers, mothers and random readers who are crazy enough to give it a whirl. Oh, and in case you’re wondering: that’s not my kid in the header, and you will never see pix of her in public areas of this site.
Love me or hate me, I hope the site keeps you interested and inspires you to interact. Comment in the posts or email me at mjv [at] thedaddydispatch.com. Thanks for stopping by.
PS – Thanks to isResearch for help with back-end stuff and design. They rock! And at least one of them can throw a nasty curveball, too.
