To be chef

Now that L is all about eating solid foods, I’m starting to think it might be healthier for her (and cheaper for us) if I make the stuff myself.

Along these lines, a good friend (and fellow new parent) recommended some food mills today, like this one from Bed, Bath & Beyond and this one from Buy Buy Baby. I had never heard of a food mill until this recommendation. So I ask you parents who’ve done this before: To what extent are they worthwhile?

And a follow-up: If we do go the food mill route, which foods best lend themselves to steaming and straining/pureeing in this fashion?

A second follow-up: Once I get really good at making baby food, I think I’d be a great contestant for Top Chef/Stay-at-Home Dads. Does such a show exist on the ABC Family channel?

Casting agents, you heard it here first.

  • It’s great to hear that you’re considering making your own baby food! It’s definitely the way to go for healthy meals and saving money.

If you want some ideas about baby food prep, or want to check out the various features of baby food grinders + mills + processors, then check out my Baby Food Grinder site. There is a useful comparison page that shows the features of the top models.

Our 5 month old ‘L’ likes most anything with the clam sauce from Gitto’s…
